UNDERSTANDING THE ISSUES
There are many different reasons why people become dependent on alcohol or drugs, but for older people it’s often due to the feelings of loss or disruption caused by retirement, children leaving home, divorce or the death of a loved one. It can also be a way of coping with isolation, loneliness, illness or pain.

HOW NORCAS CAN HELP
NORCAS is the largest independent provider of services for people with drug, alcohol and gambling problems in East Anglia. We work to reduce dependency and the harm it causes to individuals, families and communities, enabling people to recover their lives positively.
Our Over 50s Outreach Service is specifically designed to support people aged 50 years and over who have alcohol or drug issues, including prescribed medication. We can also support those who are affected by someone else’s alcohol or drug misuse, as well as carers, professionals and other agency staff who work with the over 50s.
Our team provides the service, which includes counselling, support and motivation,
signposting and advice.
COUNSELLING
We offer counselling on a one-to-one basis or within small groups, in a private and confidential setting. These sessions are designed to help you work through issues that may be adversely affecting your life and contributing to any addictive behaviour. We want to empower you to move forward positively, making beneficial life changes.
SUPPORT AND MOTIVATION
We offer support either one-to-one or within small groups, helping you develop positive coping skills and maintain motivation. We can also offer structured support to anyone affected by a relative or friend’s substance misuse.
SIGNPOSTING
While we can support people in many aspects of their substance misuse, on occasion there may be another provider better placed to meet someone’s needs. That’s why we work alongside a number of experienced agencies across the region and can help you access their services if appropriate.
ADVICE
We’re happy to offer advice and support to those affected by substance abuse – and to families, carers and friends, regardless of age. We want to help people understand more about substance misuse and learn how to look after their own wellbeing and that of their loved ones.
